And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers (Acts 2:42).
242 Groups
242 Groups are the “meat-and-potatoes” of Life Together at All Saints. Based on the description of true Christian community in Acts 2:42-47, 242 Groups are multigenerational, dynamic, committed groups of friends seeking Christ together. The principles of life together in 242 groups are:
Bible study
Open Communication
Earnest Prayer
Mutual Ministry
Service Together
Crisis Care
We are transformed spiritually through these activities and the deep friendships that grow out of our time together.
If you are not currently involved in a 242 Group but would like to be, please email Julie Cate Kelly today.
What does a 242 Group Look Like?
They are mixed gender, usually (but not always) multigenerational groups, including both singles and married couples. They meet at different times and follow different patterns for growth according to the needs of the group and the skills and strengths of the group leader. Each group has a leader, or a leader-couple, and a coordinator who handles the logistics. Apprentice leaders are often being trained so they are ready to lead new groups in the months ahead. Food is almost always a part of group life!
Each group determines what it will study together – a book of the Bible, an important book on spiritual growth, or a discussion of the preceding Sunday’s sermon. Some groups follow the Evening Prayer service together. Honest sharing and faithful prayer are essentials.
Although faithfulness and commitment are essential to growing trust and freedom in groups, 242 Groups do grow by healthy additions. Renewal of commitments to a group, birthing of new groups and opportunities to different ways of “life together” (Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, special study groups, special outreach and ministry groups) are part of healthy group life.
